NI Kontrol S88 MK3

Native InstrumentsproPro Choicecritical fields covered· 2/2 detail specs sourced

The Kontrol S88 MK3 is a pro-tier 88-key controller: a fully-weighted Fatar hammer-action keybed with polyphonic aftertouch and the deepest NKS/Komplete integration of any controller, over USB-C with DIN MIDI. Its 72 reflects flagship build aimed at pianists and composers who want a genuine playing surface. Skip it if you mainly finger-drum or need something compact — the S-series has no pads and takes real desk space.

The weighted keybed and control section of the NI Kontrol S88 in Setup Gear Guide's studio

I went with the full 88 weighted keys on purpose. Beyond producing, I want to actually learn piano, and weighted hammer action means the technique transfers to a real instrument instead of teaching me bad habits on springy synth keys. I literally bought my desk around fitting this underneath it.

Paired with Komplete 15 Ultimate, browsing and auditioning sounds straight from the keyboard is fast and genuinely fun, and that integration is the main reason I stay in the NKS world. It's as much an instrument I sit down and play as it is a controller.
