Setup Gear Guide uses the minimum: one first-party analytics cookie plus local storage for builder state. No advertising cookies, no cross-site trackers. We honor Global Privacy Control / Do Not Track; otherwise privacy-friendly analytics are on by default and you can opt out anytime.
What we set
sp_session — a first-party cookie holding a random session id (no name, email, or cross-site data), set on your first visit and kept for about 12 months. It lets analytics count funnels like 'started builder → saved build' and link a page-view session to any outbound affiliate click in it. It is not personally identifying, but because it persists it isn't fully anonymous either.
Local storage for in-progress builder state and your cookie choice, so a refresh doesn't eat your build. Builder state never leaves your browser except when you explicitly save or share.
Consent & signals
If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, we set no analytics cookie and track nothing. Otherwise the analytics cookie is set on your first visit and analytics are on by default; choose Decline on the banner at any time to opt out, which (along with clearing site data) removes it and stops tracking.
What we don't
No third-party advertising or analytics cookies. No fingerprinting. Retailer sites you click through to set their own cookies under their own policies — including affiliate-network cookies used to attribute purchases.
